The duck decoy, behind the lake in Wollaton Park, was created in 1816 to catch wildfowl for food. Today it has evolved into a haven for wildlife.
The decoy consists of a series of channels and ponds designed to lure ducks and other waterfowl into a central trap, where they could be caught. The decoy also used model ducks to attract real ducks.
Today, the duck decoy is no longer in use and is considered a historic feature of the park. The channels and ponds that make up the decoy can still be seen in the park behind the lake, from the dam.
It is a conservation area, home to many wild birds and other animals.
