Bark, Bark and More Bark

Today, a team of eight volunteers gathered at our tree nursery to tackle a daunting physical challenge: moving and spreading a mountain of bark and wood chips to protect our young saplings.

This wasn’t just a maintenance task; it was a recycling mission. The material used today was sourced from trees that recently had to be cleared from Martin’s Pond. By repurposing this wood chip, we’ve closed the loop, ensuring that the legacy of those trees lives on by protecting the next generation.

By the end of the shift, the team had moved over 40 full wheelbarrow loads 150 metres. That is approximately 1 to 1.5 tonnes of organic material, which, over 40 trips, covered a total distance of about 7.5 miles.

A huge thank you to the “Nursery Eight” for their sweat and stamina today. Those 7.5 miles and 1.5 tonnes have secured a much brighter future for our trees.
