Wollaton Park is renowned for its magnificent herds of Red and Fallow Deer. But were you aware that another, more elusive deer species also roams the park?
Back in October 2024, we shared news about the deployment of wildlife cameras within the park, primarily to assess the Hedgehog population.
To date, despite processing a significant 30,000 out of 40,000 images, we haven’t yet found any hedgehogs.
However, our wildlife monitoring efforts have yielded another exciting discovery! You might recall a sighting in August 2022, when Volunteer Ranger Unni spotted a Muntjac Deer, a moment proudly shared on our Facebook group.
Now, we have even clearer evidence. Thanks to the images captured by the Hedgehog monitoring cameras, we can definitively confirm the presence of a pair of Muntjac Deer within Wollaton Park.

This delightful revelation underscores the rich biodiversity of the park, reminding us that beyond the well-known Red and Fallow Deer, a more secretive wildlife community thrives. These camera trap images offer valuable insight into the park’s ecosystem and the presence of these charming, smaller deer.
We’ll continue to keep you updated on wildlife monitoring initiatives – you never know what other fascinating creatures we might encounter in Wollaton Park!
