Horse Chestnuts Felled for Safety

12 Horse Chestnut Trees on Jubilee Avenue have been felled following risk assessment.

On July 19th 2025, FoWP were informed by Wollaton Hall & Deer Park of the removal of several Horse Chestnut trees on Queen Elizabeth Walk. Queen Elizabeth Walk is the path from the Stable Block to the Lake and was planted in 1980 for the Queen Mother’s birthday (more…).

We were aware that these trees were already in poor health due to Horse Chestnut Bleeding Canker, a serious disease. The recent prolonged dry weather significantly worsened their condition, leading to large branches falling onto public footpaths. This created an immediate and significant risk to public safety, forcing Wollaton Hall & Deer Park to accelerate their felling. All removed trees showed advanced signs of decay. We were assured this was a necessary safety measure, not a decision taken lightly by Wollaton Hall & Deer Park.

FoWP will work with the Council regarding appropriate tree replacements.

FoWP have recently planted 80 trees in a tree nursery, in the slips of the Walled Garden and will be factored into the tree replacements.
