Fourteen, yes 14, volunteers supported the February Saturday task, our biggest weekend turnout yet.
The task was to create a 3rd dead hedge in the compost area in Digby Woods to separate the hard and sort compost piles.
A mature dead hedge, despite the name, will be teeming with life and offers several ecological benefits:
- It will provide habitat and shelter for insects and small mammals;
- The decaying wood provides a haven for fungi;
- The insects and fungi are vital to the park’s food chain.
