A Summer of Weeds and Hope

A wet start to the summer followed by a burst of sunshine created the perfect conditions for our garden’s unwelcome guests: the weeds

The unpredictable British weather has once again thrown us a curveball. A wet start to the summer followed by a burst of sunshine created the perfect conditions for our garden’s unwelcome guests: the weeds! Much of July has been spent battling back against their relentless growth. As you can see from the photos, it’s been a constant battle, but we’re determined to keep our formal garden looking its best.

Due to council budget controls, some adjustments to the usual planting have had to be made this year. The vibrant summer bedding displays you might be accustomed to seeing will be less extensive. The border along the camellia house has been planted with cottage-garden-style perennials but will not mature until next year. The other formal beds still contain our spring bedding.

We are developing a plan to bring back the vibrant, year-round colour and flower displays that our formal beds deserve, collaborating with Nottingham City Council, our dedicated Garden Volunteers, the Walled Garden Project, and the Botanic Garden. Together, we are committed to ensuring spectacular displays return.
