Ha-Ha Water Outlet

The Ha-Ha between the “Splendour” field and the lake was designed to allow excess water to drain into the lake, but has been silted up – until now…

The Ha-Ha between the “Splendour” field and the lake was designed to take the surface water from the Hall, Industrial Museum and outbuildings and drain it into the lake via an outlet by the reed bed.

Works were carried out in 1983 to ensure this water was able to run smoothly along the Ha-Ha to the outlet into the lake (see Photo below)

Since then, the outlet has become silted up — until today. A team of volunteers cleared the water channel from the outlet to the lake, allowing the water to escape, as well as removing debris on the Ha-Ha side.

It remains to be seen how much water drains from the Ha-Ha, but already the water level has been reduced by as much as 3 bricks at the outlet.

Unlikely the full Ha-Ha will drain fully as the Reeds now growing in the Ha-Ha form good mini-dams at various points.

Thank you everyone – future dates
