… on a Cold and Frosty Morning

Eight volunteers braved the cold, in what turned out to be a lovely morning in the park.

Five of the Eight.

The ranger-led task was to clear the Rhododendrons from the conservation area by the Red Phone box.

Why did we remove Rhododendrons…

“Where conditions are suitable, Rhododendrons will out-compete most native plants. It will grow to many times the height of a person, allowing very little light to penetrate through its thick leaf canopy. This effectively eliminates other competing native plant species which are unable to grow due to insufficient light. This in turn leads to the consequent loss of the associated native animals.”
